Published by thetradersarena at 8:14 pm under Prospect Talk Edit This

1. Fernando Martinez

2. Wilmer Flores

3. Jonathan Niese

4. Brad Holt

5. Bobby Parnell

6. Jefry Marte

7. Jennry Meija

8. Reese Havens

9. Nick Evans

10. Eddie Kunz

After the trade for Johan Santana, it pretty much has thinned their system. Fernando Martinez still is thier top prospect and most likely first to hit the MLB if they need a 4th outfielder. Wilmer Flores is very young, one of the first players from the 90’s to break into the majors but is very touted and is already the #2 prospect. Bobby Parnell and Eddie Kunz both pitched in the Majors last year and were not used very effectively. They would not come in any key situations when both should have been given that shot. I see bright futures for both of them. Reese Havens, Ike Davis (just missed), and Jonathan Niese are up in the air for me as borderline players in the future for them.

What does this mean to some of their card values? Fernando Martinez cards are very high, and personally, I think is overpriced and overrated. I would not invest any money into him. Wilmer Flores on the other hand, has BC Autos that can be had for under 25. Problem is that they are redemptions, and now he also has no Bowman Sterling Auto. I have picked up 2 Flores redemptions but am stopping there because I really am not sure if they will even get made after the whole Detwiler/Frazier fiasco. Parnell and Kunz have chrome rookies but relievers are never real safe bets, although I do see Parnell becoming a great sleeper reliever for the Mets as a flamethrower; Krod and Putz can probably teach him a thing or two about that.

This system is not very deep but luckily they have a core group of guys in David Wright, Carlos Delgado, Carlos Beltran and Jose Reyes along with Johan Santana holding down the staff.
