MLB Talk of the Day: Mets, Lowe, Penny, + More

Published by thetradersarena at 12:26 pm under MLB Talks Edit This

Here is the news as of right now:

The Mets would like to start figuring out their pitching staff as the pitchers and catchers reporting date looms. They are hoping to sign one of them at least, figuring since two of them are Boras clients they might be pricey. I can see them adding Lowe and maybe a low end starter, maybe Wolf, but maybe a trade for Tim Redding, but no one spectacular. They also might be looking to add another lefty reliever although they will not pursue Joe Biemel and seem content with Pedro Feliciano is Duaner Sanchez can handle lefties. The Mets also might want to pursue Alex Cora as a backup infielder, probably for Luis Castillo.

The Red Sox had a chance to get Texeira, but Boras had propsosed something in the 175 million range but a 10 year deal with 2 vesting options that would eclipse the 220 million dollar mark. The Yankees ended up winning for only 10 MM more and no options.

Brad Penny has signed a one year deal with the Red Sox for 3 million and could be worth as much as 5 million. He was injured last year but the 2 previous years he had back to back 16 win seasons so this could be a real steal. He might just be holding a spot until Bowden/Buccholz/Masterson is ready to start.

Mark Hendrickson signed a 1 year deal Orioles.
