Brian Fuentes Signs 2 Year Deal with Angels
ESPN’s Buster Olney is reporting that Brian Fuentes has signed a 2 year deal with the Angels. Terms of the contract are not available yet but will update when more info is in. Fuentes had a nice rebound season last year with over 30 saves for the dismal Rockies. He was displaced as closer during their magical 2007 run by Manny Corpas. When Corpas underperformed this year Fuentes was back in the mix and became a top closing option. He has had 3 30 save seasons in the past 4 years and is a hard throwing lefty. He is a good option for the Angels, but the deal probably will be around 2 years 25 million. They might as well have signed Francisco Rodrigez back for the extra year and a bit extra, seeing they did not sign Texeira.
Update: The contract also comes with a 2011 club option. Financial terms were not released in the press release. As compensation for signing the type A free agent, the Rockies receive the 33rd pick in the draft, as well as a sandwich supplemental pick.
