MLB Talk of the Day: Lowe, Bradley, Taveras, Manny,
The latest on Derek Lowe is that the deal is probably inevitable. However, they will probably need to up the offer, but they would like to keep it under 15 million a year. They also do not want to guarantee a 4th year as that would take him into his 40’s. The Mets have stated that they will only likely sign 1 out of 3 out of the group of Lowe, Perez, Wolf.
A deal for Milton Bradley to the Cubs appears imminent. By moving Marquis, the Cubs cleared 5 million dollars and can now sign Bradley. Bradley will add the left handed bat that they need, as well as an OF. Bradley had a career year last year, but did get hurt in the end. He is a nice pickup for the Cubs, especially with that great rotation they have.
Willy Taveras has officially signed with the Reds, 2 years 6.25 MM. Taveras set a career high last year and had 68 steals.
Ned Colletti has been contacted by Scott Boras about free agent Manny Ramirez. Not surprising, as Boras is now the one feeling pressure becuase the Dodgers can look at cheaper alternatives in Adam Dunn or Bobby Abreu instead of Manny. If Manny does not sign with the Dodgers, he will have a tough time finding a team. However, if the Yankees are able to trade one or two of their outfielders, like Matsui and/or Swisher, don’t be surprised if they try to sign Manny as well…
The Dodgers have just signed Claudio Vargas for a 1 year deal.
