Giants Pursuing Manny Ramirez; Lowe Not Impressed By Mets Offer
The Giants inquired about Mark Texeira and Manny Ramirez back in November. No offers were ever made, however, the Giants are re-expressing their interest in Manny Ramirez. They seem to be the most aggressive out of all the NL West teams and could pry Manny away from the Dodgers. In order to do this, the Giants likely would move Aaron Rowand, Randy Winn, or Dave Roberts. If only they didn’t sign Zito, they could of had him and Sabathia.
Derek Lowe is not impressed with the Mets offer to him of 3 years 36 MM. The Mets may be able to increase to about 13.3 MM a year but really do not want to exceed that. They feel that they can get him cheaper seeing that the only other suitors for him are the Phillies and Red Sox and both of them do not look like they will be making an offer. Lowe will likely just hold off and wait, although this could be another Boras game that he loves to play. Lowe originally was looking for 4 years and 15+ MM. This may cause Oliver Perez to get a quicker offer from a team, maybe the Yankees instead of siging Pettite. This would make the Mets a little pressured as their fallback option is getting attention from a team who can sign at will. Not to mention, it would drive up Lowe’s price. I think he will end up in NY, but just a matter of time and money.
