MLB Updates: Alex Rodriguez, Ryan Howard

Published by thetradersarena at 9:32 am under MLB Talks Edit This

Alex Rodriguez has been named in a report that lists 104 players to have tested positive for steroids. A-Rod, or as he is now called “A-Fraud” and what I saw yesterday as a Boston headline “A-R*d”. There is nothing in his contract regarding steroids so the Yankees can not release him, nor can they really trade him due to his huge contract. Not that I would, but they discussed this when Giambi was found to have used steroids.

Ryan Howard has avoided arbitration and signed a 3 year deal with the Phillies worth 54 MM. The deal will be for 15 MM, 19 MM, than 20 MM. This contract now buys out Howard’s arbitration years as he has been the unprecedented arbitration player always getting the most money and it kept increasing each year to uncharted waters.

Other news:

  • Joe Crede is looking for a 7 MM dollar contract.
  • Jim Bowden says likely #1 pick Stephen Strasburg is the best pitchin prospect in the past 10-15 years.
  • The Astros may offer Adam Dunn a 1 year contract in the next coming days.
  • The Rangers have signed Andruw Jones. He will make 500K and 1MM if he makes the big leagues. He has 5 other OF to compete with, so nothing is guaranteed.
  • Ben Sheets will have surgery.
