MLB Updates: Johan has no discomfort, takes no chances
Johan Santana threw a light bullpen session today without any discomfort in his ailing elbow. He did not pause through the session which is a good sign. Regardless, he is coming back to New York on Monday to get some tests done, most likely an MRI, although that hasn’t been confirmed. Chances are, even if it isn’t serious, he may miss his first start because this will stop his conditioning from happening. Many are saying now that it was a two fold problem. First, he started throwing bullpen sessions every other day in order to build his knee back and see if there was no pain. Second, he was really optimistic about wearing the Maroon and Gold for his Venezuelan national team in the World Baseball Classic. Clearly, that won’t happen now and he may not pitch on opening day for the Mets.
