Updates from a busy day around the league…
Manny Ramirez may find himself without a job. The Dodgers are actually thinking about moving on without him, their GM seems more and more willing to let him go. I am sure they will fix the 1.5 MM gap for the greedy Manny and he will play in LA.
Pedro Martinez has some news to MLB teams. He rather retire than get a contract around the likes of Tom Glavines contract. Get real Pedro, you aren’t worth more than a few mil at best.
Nomar Garciaparra has signed a 1 year deal with the A’s. He was on the fence between playing and retiring, so now he will indeed play, backuping up the infield and also get some time at DH. Now signing Garciaparra and Orlando Cabrera, where does this leave Bobby Crosby? No team wants his 6 MM contract, and the A’s pretty much don’t want him either./li>
The WBC is starting soon with teams now losing their guys to their national teams. The Yankees played today against the US team and the US team looked pretty good. Their pitching looks to be strong, even with only a few starters like Roy Oswalt (who hit 94 on the gun) and then an extremely solid pen full of set up men and closers. Should be a fun tournament. The US beat the Yankees today 6-4. Jeter against his old team had 2 RBIs.
Will Ohman was being pursued by the Phillies, but now it is unlikely the Phillies will sign a lefty reliever as they are already committing over 130 MM this year for their 25 man roster.
Odalis Perez, after being cut, is apparently being sought after by 9 or 10 teams. I doubt this after the stunt he pulled, but he has a free tryout during the WBC pitching for the Dominican Republic.
The Mets may be interested in FA C Ivan Rodriguez. I think they should sign him cheap to backup / platoon.
Barry Bonds wants to play in 2009, and his agent will be making calls to all 30 teams. I doubt a team signs him, but who knows.
