News from yesterdays games…
Randy Johnson took a no hitter into the 7th inning yesterday. He did end up giving a hit, and ended up going 7 with allowing one hit. That was win 296, 4 more to get to the elusive 300.
The Marlins won again to go to a MLB Best 11-1. They have faced the Nationals a lot already so that can account for some, but their pitching has looked great so far. They are always a dark horse in a division that likely will win the wild card.
Rick Porcello, the Tigers #1 prospect and phenom, earned his first MLB win yesterday pitching 7 strong innings and only throwing 86 pitches. I was able to tune into a few of the innings on MLB TV and not only was he throwing hard, but he had excellent command of his sinking fastball. That enabled him to get quick ground outs to keep his pitch count low.
Ryan Zimmerman has agreed to an extension with the Nationals. It is a 5 year deal worth 45 MM and it also voids the 1 year deal they signed to skip arbitration this year.
Todays top pitching matchup:
Derek Lowe vs. Jordan Zimmerman - Zimmerman is the Nationals #1 Prospect
